Bikers Inner Circle

Dear Staff, friends & family,

It is with deep regret, many sleepless nights and numerous discussions with my partner, Debbie Johnson, that I write this letter. Most of you know what a financial struggle it has been to produce our motorcycle rally – forget the politics.  I have a large sum of money invested, but more important, our freedom-loving biker-hearts are deeply rooted in spirit of the Shasta Salute to America Motorcycle Rally.  Debbie and I love bikers. We love the biker lifestyle.  Presenting LtC. Don Allen’s magnificent AVTT 2 years in a row was an honor and a privilege. The Wall and the Cost of Freedom sacred displays were open 24 hrs./day, free to the public, throughout the duration of our events. What a site it was to see!  Over 3 ½ years a team of people grew in numbers and we came together with a common goal.  Watching outstanding individuals (bikers) pulling together to make the Shasta Salute to America Motorcycle Rally successful means everything to us. Without your help, we could not have accomplished what we did.

There are always ways to beat ourselves up over what we may not have done correctly. The motorcycle rally business certainly contains a list of unknown factors a mile long; from the poor economy, to members of law enforcement with negative views of bikers, to liquor licensing issues - the list goes on.  (It only takes 1 individual to ruin an event for everyone.)  All in all though, we know we produced  a real motorcycle rally, and there are very few left.  Each of you played a role in helping us keep biker traditions alive.  We produced a rally where bikers could meet old friends and make new ones.  Inside the Rally grounds there was an atmosphere where everyone knew they could just relax, smile and be bikers (real people).  We heard so many great stories and met so many incredible people.  This was a real accomplishment in times when much of America is obsessed with political correctness.  Along this journey, we proved (again) that bikers are some of the most respectful, patriotic and law-abiding folks a tourist driven economy could ask for.

Unfortunately for us it has come down to money and time. Even though the economic impact of the Shasta Salute to America Motorcycle Rally exceeded $1,000,000.00 in the region, we have been unable to convince the Tulelake-Butte Valley Fairground to work with us on costs and we were given a deadline of January 15, 2010 to give them our decision.  There is also a new protocol for law enforcement’s role with our liquor permit – that protocol has yet to be finalized. We feel it is not fair to keep all of you aiming toward a goal that has too many unknown factors with the event being just 5 ½ months away.

Besides our great Staff and supporters, I want to acknowledge Debbie. No one works harder than my girl.  I am so proud of her and feel so privileged that the good Lord has blessed my stubborn ass with a loyal patient angel who works harder and more effectively than any human being I have ever met.  I will always remember her smile when she rode her motorcycle into her Wings2Fly Saloon and then, danced on her bar with her friends!

As most of you know Debbie and I started a new business marketing a fabulous product - Playfield Turf ( www.playfieldturf.com).  We have decided to take advantage of this opportunity and use our business experience and talent to grow this endeavor. This being said, not producing the Shasta Salute to America Motorcycle Rally for 2010 is one of the hardest decisions we have ever made.

Don’t forget to support America’s service members – they are there for us every step of the way!  Thank you again.

Yours truly,

Jeff Kraus & Debbie Johnson
